A Projection TV Provides the Largest Possible Screen Size
for the Lowest Price Per Unit Area.

Before you consider a Projection TV, take a moment to understand how their unique design can provide such large images at such a competitive price.

A Projection TV utilizes some of the same technology as a standard tube TV, with one important difference.

A traditional tube TV contains one CRT that shoots an electron beam that excites phosphors that emit light, which you seen on your screen.  Projection TVs use 3 CRTs. Each one of these CRTs is responsible for one primary color, red green and blue.

The CRTs of a rear projection TV are emitted at a much higher intensity, actually projecting the light off of the face of the CRT onto an optically pure mirror, which then projects the light onto the projection screen.  It’s here during the CRT projection that the magnification of the image takes place, allowing the display size of the Projection television to correspond to the distance between the 3 CRT’s, the Mirror and the Projection Screen.

Because the CRTs of Projection units do not need to be anywhere near the size of the CRT of a traditional tube TV, the cost of is comparatively less. In fact, the cost of a Projection television, when comparing inches to inches with its tube, plasma, or LCD counterparts is on the order of 50% less.

This price advantage is realized because the size of the elements of projection TVs are relatively standardized, meaning the CRTs (the most expensive part of any Projection TV) are pretty much the same size no matter what the screen size is.  Here you can find some of the most inexpensive projection TVs on the market.

Where as, a Plasma or LCD Flat Screen TV will utilize more display elements as the screen grows larger.  Most tube TV manufactures have stated that any single CRT tube above 40 inches will have significant quality control issues, making their production extremely expensive.

That’s why the technology of projection TVs will, for the time being, remain the most cost effective solution for home theater and home entertainment.
